Here we have a youtube video by FPS Russia, he set a challenge a while ago using a .22 rifle without any sights - it is a timed shoot against 5x metal targets where he challenged other shooters to beat his time:

Penetration Test # 4 .22LR

So we finally came down to editing & uploading the video of our 4th .22LR Penetration Test ... using Eley Club, we Finally Stopped the rounds so this video is a little more interesting and slightly longer with some still images of the deformed bullets etc.

.22LR Penetration Test / Ammo Review #3

Here is the 3rd Penetration Test, still going strong with Eley Club, .22LR Subsonic Round Nose - 40grain.
All details in the video! But something new, we recovered a bullet so check the level of deformity in the bullet head...

We already have another video soon ready for uploading, it is shot and Filmed, just need to get off my crack and edit it / upload to Youtube.... so give it a couple days and there should be a new video soon.

.22LR Penetration Test & Ammo Review # 2

Here it is! Our Second Penetration test using Eley's Club range, these round nosed subsonics are rated at 1085 fps (FYI The latest batch we are shooting are severely over coated with wax)

FPS RUSSIA Raided by 40+ ATF & FBI agents

A couple of days ago, the famous Youtube personality and gun enthusiast Kyle Myers (Old youtube channel FPS Kyle) now known as FPS RUSSIA, had his family property raided in the search for explosives and probably to get a look at his arsenal, despite Tennerite (the explosive he uses in his videos) being legal with the right papers which he does possess!
According to news on the web they left ''empty handed'' - A couple of month's ago Kyles best buddy Keith R. Ratkliff (RIP) was killed apparently execution style, Keith was the Executive Producer of the FPS RUSSIA Youtube Channel which Kyle is the main personality.
This has raised many theories and suspicions especially if you know what is currently happening in the USA now in terms of government crackdowns, new tyrannic laws implemented daily and extreme policing and control.

In his youtube channel FPS Russia is a gun lover reviewing various firearms for his viewers (The 3.9 Million Subscribers), not only firearms but even heavy weaponry such as 40mm Bofors Pom Pom guns from WW2 Era, Hellcat Tank Destroyer right through down to the humble .22LR.

All of the firearms he gets access to are legal and he does all of the shooting on his family owned private property in the State of Georgia USA, yes, he is actually a US Citizen just enacting a Russian personality for his show.

Officially, the ATF regards FPSRussia as a commercial undertaking, because “he [Myers] was using explosives and getting paid for it via YouTube.” If Kyle Myers is doing business in explosives, the ATF believes he should have had obtained a federal explosives manufacturing license needed “to engage in the business of manufacturing explosives for sale, distribution or for their own business,” the ATF spokesperson explained.

No illegal explosives were found and no arrests were made, but considering the unprecedented arsenal stocked at one of the locations, the agents considered confiscating Myers’ weapons. “The idea at one of the locations was to take firearms, but they did not do that,” an ATF spokesperson said, according to Onlineathens.com.

He also has a humourous side, watch the above video clip - this is probably one of the funniest, FPS Russia gets a friend to pepper spray him like a True Russian before attempting to shoot some informal targets with the Kel Tec Sub 2000 in .40 cal

.22LR Penetration Test & Ammo Review

Welcome back! As promised, here is the result of our penetration test;

I have some weird obsession with the penetration characteristics of various types of ammunition, I have noticed how the majority of individual shooters who make penetration test reviews and videos seem to be quite closed minded in terms of target materials and overall setup. Most tests you will find online are merely bottles filled with water and shot with a few different brands and velocities of ammo. or metal plates, soft drink cans (soda cans) etc.

We have created a pretty nice multi layered And multi material target which has 3 impact points which will test one type of ammunition for the time being ( Eley Club, 40grain 1085fps ) and it's different impact points and penetration ability or difficulty between each layer.
It is one target with all 3 target aim points in one, yet multiple material layers beneath each level, Materials include:

• Tin Cans eg: beans, soup etc.,
• Hardened Cardboard,
• Folded Soft Drink Cans (Aluminium),
• Plastics of two thicknesses and density,
• Rubber Strips,
• Electrical Tape (Not thick, only to hold target and layers together as well as separating aim points.
• TARGET WEIGHT BEFORE SHOOTING: 135+Grams (using analogue kitchen scale so not entirely exact)

Level 1 (thin thickness section):
15.5mm of all materials combined including a +-3mm dead space (empty space)
Level 2 (medium thickness section):
17mm of all materials combined - this level has No dead space area / part
Level 3 (thickest section):
21mm of all materials combined - this level has No dead space area / part

Triple Layer & Multiple Material .22LR Penetration Target

 I shot the target at 25 yards, hot good clean hits but did also experience 2x shots which slightly skimmed the top, these were not counted as it became obvious they didn't hit all materials in Layer 3.

 In Layers 1 & 2, we had good penetration through all metal plates, plastics, hardened cardboard, Rubber etc. The above is the final plate in front of the final Rubber and plastic layers in Level 1.

 As you can see above we just clipped the target spot and thereby will not count these two shots as they definitely missed a few layers in Level 3.

.22LR Penetration Test - Back of target blasted out but semi intact

 Finally, the back of the target - blown nicely out but still relatively intact! The conclusion is that we have severely misunderestimated the power of the .22LR - we expected Layer 3 to stop the round but had penetration anyway ... so the good news for you is that we will come back with a Layer 4 which we will make to stop this ammunition ( Eley club - 1085 fps ) and will post the update here in the near future!

.22LR Penetration Test & Ammo Review

In a few of days we will post the outcome of a .22LR penetration test that we are going to undertake in a couple of days, The test will both be penetration and ammunition review, the target is designed in multiple layers of different materials so the ammunition will be tested thoroughly! In most penetration tests shooters either change the ammunition or just use the same ammo. on seperate targets, we have made One target with multiple layers of materials and each layer will get rounds put through it, we will use the same ammunition and then review the depth of penetration and resulting bullet deformity.

US Ban on International Export of high capacity magazines ?

HC3R 25 round .22LR Mag for Ruger 10/22

We have had confirmed reports that the US State Department has placed an International ban (not sure if temporary or permanent) on the export of high capacity magazines above 10 rounds Including .22LR !

Update: The ban is apparrently so as to prevent High Capacity magazines being used against US forces in conflict zones.

As we get additional information on this we will keep you all updated, Please submit your comments as this we feel is an unfair practice that will negatively affect the international sporting and recreational community since most manufacturers produce the magazines themselves or have one supplier whom is also a US registered company and therefore fall under the ban.
If they wish to prevent the use of High Capacity magazines against their forces then why is Rimfire firearms affected as well? I can understand being proactive and preventative but I don't think a .22LR will do much against a soldier with Nato standard ceramic armour, kevlar helmets and lets not forget his own .223 ( 5.56mm ) Automatic Assult Rifle which he Will return fire with. I just can't see the Taliban running around against the whole of Nato with some Marlin 60's, Anschutz MSR RX 22's, Ruger 10/22's or Mossberg 715T's!

Lets hope our friends in the US arms industry will then at the very least sell licenced manufacturing rights to international firms (even if in China) to keep supply for International demand

How far will a .22LR kill ( penetration / lethality test )

In this 9 Min Youtube video, these blokes test the lethality of the .22LR round on 1/2'' ( 127mm ) Pine Wood Board at various distances starting with a Beretta Minx (.22 short) at 9' ( 2.74 Meters ) eventually going out to 440 Yards ( 402 Meters ) with a Ruger 10/22 (.22LR) with clean penetration at all intervals

 

I must say that I am severly impressed with the accuracy and range of the Ruger 10/22(And the shooters) in this video! I would have never imagined a .22 LR Rifle being able to hit targets at such distances accurately - below is another video from the same channel, 300 - 400 yards Ruger 10/22:

 

The Freedom of Plinking

Plinking ... or Informal Target Shooting is a form of outdoor recreational shooting whereby the enthusiasts are merely looking for a little more freedom when using firearms in rural / deserted areas, as per the Wikipedia article on Plinking: ''Plinking in general allows a shooter much freedom of choice in creating his or her shooting experience. In particular, the plinker is set at liberty from the very restrictive rules found at many gun ranges.'' - the most common target being a tin can, ie: Soft Drink, Soda or Beer and even tinned food cans!

In most countries this is an okay thing to do as long as you are not trespassing on private property and exercising some safety to ascertain that you are not sending ricochet bullets in the direction of people, property or animals and also your own safety.

To prevent Plinking becoming the next thing your government wants to regulate, follow some basic safety;

• If in an area where you are not sure if others are around (woods, forrests, hills etc) yell out a warning before shooting,
• Wear some safety gear - mainly shooting glasses,
• Do not trespass on someones property! This will be annoying to them and may get the Police involved,
• Don't place a target in front of rocks or other solid objects - make sure there is an adequate backdrop,
• Don't dress in full military camo or black tactical gear - it's just too suspicious and draws attention,
• Clean up your area after the session - Don't litter or leave a mess, again this will draw criticism to Plinking but mostly to shooting sports culture as a whole,
• Check out the area, just use common sense and make some good judgements before starting

 

Large bore rifle shooters use thick steel plates and 'Plink' from very long distances, the steel will return a loud Plink sound confirming a hit - check out the video at the bottom of the post. Steel plate plinking can also involve penetration tests whereby the shooter has the right documents to allow the purchase of Armour Piercing ammunition or sometimes 'Copper Washed' ammunition that holds some convincing when it hits the armoured target compared with standard 'Ball' ammuniton, again, this is only for interest sake - these people are Not criminals they just want to see the effects on steel etc.

 

 

An old drum can - probably an old paint tin used as a target - the entry holes look like Rimfire ammunition but could also be .223   In some cases it would have had a printed target or hand drawn target attached to the front

 

A home made plate on chains - note the shooter used a powerful firearm on the far right middle which penetrated the plate.The fact that the plate is hanging loose on chains and not fixed will prevent ricochets and dramatically reduces risks (now how do I convince the UK police with this FACT)

I hope that one day Plinking can be seen as a innocent form of recreational shooting and not so alienated as it is (well it is pretty much non existent and if done in the UK I bet its very underground)

If anybody knows how to get the government and local authorities involved in supplying a designated area outside every major city in the UK where Plinkers can go for a shoot, please comment, it is something I would seriously like to see happen in the future - I know it would be a major H&S pain the the crack but why not try?

For those overseas who'se governments still have not taken away all of their rights, well have fun next time you go out plinking! and also have a minute of silence for us poor UK shooters!  ;)
